How do people typically greet each other in Costa Rica?
A single kiss on the right cheek is a common greeting primarily between women and between a man and a woman. Between men a handshake is typical. Costa RIcans are warm people, a hug is never a bad idea!
What currency is used in Costa Rica? Should I bring US dollars?
The official currency is the Costa Rican Colón (CRC). However, US dollars are widely accepted in tourist areas. Credit cards are also commonly accepted and is the recommended form of payment. We advise carrying a small amount of Colones for smaller establishments or in case of unexpected situations. ATMs and bank branches give the best exchange rates.
What is the weather like in Costa Rica during December?
Although December typically marks the beginning of the dry season, climate change can make the weather very unpredictable, and rain is always a possibility in Costa Rica. In the Central Pacific, you can usually expect bright, sunny, and clear days with plenty of sunshine. Temperatures are generally warm and humid, typical of a tropical climate, with daytime highs ranging from the upper 80s to low 90s Fahrenheit and nighttime temperatures typically in the upper 70s.
Do you have to tip in Costa Rica?
Restaurants and bars typically include a 10% service charge automatically added to your bill. If you'd like to add a bit more for exceptional service, you can, but it's not strictly expected beyond the included charge. For other services (tour guides, hotel staff, drivers, etc.) tip is highly appreciated but by no means required.
(The service charge should not be confused with the 13% sales tax (IVA) typically added to any bill)
Are children invited to the wedding?
We love your little ones! However, our wedding celebration is designed as an adults-only event. Only the names specifically listed on your invitation or RSVP are expected to attend.
